I Am Not a New Employee

anymore…

I already acted lately like I am really part of the company. My colleagues at work specifically on the section where I am assigned treat me like a new found nice friend to them. I have no discomfort anymore in discussing things with them, I can even already crack jokes to them… Well, it took more than a month to be fully acquainted with them but it’s okay…

Now, I can say that I am already part of the company because for the last two weeks, I was always called by our President/General Manager and his son to their offices to report matters related to my tasks. These tasks include monitoring computer inventories, programs and software installed on all computers while focusing too on the documentations I am making for some in-house programs. For the past weeks too, I realized that I am already moving in the real world since deadlines are strictly imposed, I had a hard time to please my bosses every time I unintentionally had to extend the deadline given, due to some factors which were already beyond of my control.

Though, I can really say that I am under on a very strict management, I find it challenging and I know that I will learn much from them. But breaking down the things I have learned and observed so far during the first 2 months on my first job, I can name few funny things that I will never forget:

1. Always bring a notebook when you are speaking to your boss, you will realize that you will forget some of the important things he said to you a while ago.

2. Be observant with the company’s rules, regulations and activities. (I had an unauthorized absence one time when I haven’t realized that there’s a bulletin board announcing the general assembly the next two days before I had a day off the next day.)

3. Always be curious.

4. There are always SIPSIP people around so beware… Don’t do the same with them, treat them nicely instead (you might be backstabbed later if you don’t).

5. Dot matrix printers are lots of pain in the ass when you get to print more than a hundred pages of reports given the deadline’s the day after you start to print. So, I suggest, you should tell your boss ahead of time the span of time you can finish a task before he can give deadline dates.

6. Practice a lot of Tagalog.

7. Know how to understand Tagalog (with Chinese accent) so to avoid asking Po? (huhuhu)

8. Epson printers have resetters (yey! I know how to reset one in case).

9. Basic of VB (weehhh… still learning though)

10. MS Access (kabalo2 nako)

11. Lastly, I realized that I want to be a programmer… SERIOUSLY!

It was a great thing to be part of this section when I see my colleagues so busy when there’s something wrong happened to our system. I got to attend calls to our office from employees to troubleshoot some minor problems with their PC or programs.

And finally, I want to share that last Wednesday, I received the first real compliment from my boss for my performance for the first two months and the big news was, I will also be part of the other section where only few employees were given access to. Yey! I am just so happy and motivated…

Hmm… That’s all for now… GogogogogogogogogogogogoGLAI!
